Arion Press – Limited Edition
Lie, Sit, Stand, Be Still by Michael McClure, with an introduction by the poet, and with twenty-four lithographs and a bronze bas-relief by Robert Graham, 1995.
This long expressionistic poem was written by the Beat Generation poet Michael McClure in response to studies of female nudes by the celebrated sculptor Robert Graham. The drawings were made into a suite of lithographs, the most substantial body of graphic work to be covered by this important artist. The prints are interleaved with sheets bearing the poem and are presented in a portfolio box with the sculpture mounted on the lid.
Format: 15 by 11 inches, 52 leaves. The types are Monotype Walbaum and handset Craw Clarendon Modern. The paper is English mouldmade Somerset Satin. The lithographs were printed at Hamilton Press, Venice, California. The portfolio box is covered in two colors of cloth, with the bronze bas-relief recessed into the lid. Each print is numbered and signed by the artist, and the final sheet of the poem is signed by the poet. Edition of 50 copies. $5,000.00.
