This is a very rare signed deluxe limited edition of “Los Ambulantes: The Itinerant Photographers of Guatemala” published by the MIT Press, Cambridge in 1982 with a limitation of 100 this being number 12. I have handled numerous deluxe limited editions and “Los Ambulantes” is one of the most lavish and beautifully produced editions I have encountered. A study of and tribute to the itinerant photographers of Guatemala, the book features beautiful portraits of native Guatemalans in their richly ornamented clothing in homage to the country’s folk tradition. Commenting on the book, Ann Parker wrote, "In a kind of partnership with the itinerants, I have acted as their photographic spokesman to record, in a more lasting way than they are able to, the essence of their world. I brought to the task my vision, my photographic knowledge and equipment, and my firm belief in the importance of recording this folk tradition."

Measuring approximately 14.5” x 10”, both the book and the silver gelatin print are housed together in a hand-made clothbound maroon clamshell box. The original selenium-toned silver print is entitled, “Two Brothers from Nahuala” and is numbered, signed and dated by Ann Parker. The print measures 9” x 6” and is archivally matted and housed in a folding chemise. Measuring 11” x 10.75”, the book is bound in beautiful Guatemalan “ghost” fabric that was purchased by the authors on their trip. The book is signed by Ann Parker and Avon Neal on the limitation page. The book, print and clamshell box are in FINE condition with the clamshell box evidencing very superficial wear.

Photographs of the clamshell case, the book cover and chemise, the signed silver gelatin print, and the signatures on the limitation page appear below.
