This edition was published in 1975 by l’Esprit de Lafayette Society, Arveyres, France, to commemorate the bicentennial and memorialize the numerous contributions of Lafayette. Bound in decorated buffalo leather covers with 24-karat gold designs and titles on the front and back, this Limited First Edition is signed by Louis Gottschalk on the title page and stamped with the limitation number (BK044). This is a massive 1006 page volume that contains 3 books:
Lafayette Comes to America, 184 pages
Lafayette Joins the American Army, 364 pages
Lafayette and the Close of the American Revolution, 458 pages
There are 6 lithographic plates of maps that have been copied from the original documents and have been approved by the United States National Historical Publications and Records Commission. Loosely inserted within the book is a Certificate of First Edition, signed by Richard Poe (in charge of the binding) and dated July 30, 1976.
The book is in FINE condition with some marks to the top gilt.
