This is a very rare combination two book set that provides tremendous insight into the process of James Jones’ writing of Whistle. The first book, “Whistle, A Work in Progress by James Jones”, is a facsimile of the hand-corrected typescript of Chapter One of the book and illustrates the technique of the author at work on the book while it was in development. Bound in brown wrappers, this unpaginated book is a limited edition of 300 with this being number 122. The condition is MINT and is signed by James Jones on the limitation page.

The second book is the first edition, first printing of “Whistle” published by the Franklin Library in 1978. This book is also in MINT condition. The edition features the usual Franklin Library fineries of a full leather cover, gold gilding and gilting, silk moiré endpapers and a matching satin bookmark.

It is fascinating to read the Work in Progress and then read the first chapter of Whistle. The appreciation that you have for the creative process that James Jones experiences as he is writing the book is truly amazing. This is a set that is a must have for James Jones fans and those that want to share a great reading experience.
