Bread Upon the Waters by Irwin Shaw

Inscribed by Irwin Shaw to Irving “Swifty Paul Lazar

This is a unique item.  Besides being a signed First Edition, First Printing of “Bread Upon the Water”, this book is inscribed by Irwin Shaw to Swifty Lazar his agent to whom he dedicated the book. “Swify” Lazar was a legendary agent who represented elite celebrities and authors including Humphrey Bogart, Truman Capote, Ernest Hemingway, Gene Kelly, Madonna and Tennessee Williams.

Published by the Franklin Library in 1981, the inscription on the second free endpaper reads, “To Irving, another jewel in his crown – Love, Signed Irwin.” The dedication page of the book simply states “To Irving Paul Lazar”.  This is a very special book with a very special inscription.

Book Features: This edition features premium hand-cut full leather boards with a distinct cover design in ornate 22-karat gold gild. The spine is hubbed with raised horizontal ridges formed in the leather. There are silk moiré endpapers with a sewn in matching satin bookmark. The pages are gold gilded to protect against dust and moisture and the paper used is acid neutral to last generations without discoloring. 

Condition:  FINE. The book is in excellent condition with some fading to the silk moiré endpapers and minor marks to the side gilt. There are no bookplates, markings, or any other signs of previous ownership.
