Distortions by André Kertész
First Edition, First Printing, 1976
Exceptional Condition
This is a first edition, first printing of Kertész’s critically acclaimed photobook, “Distortions” published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York, in 1976. The book is a celebration of the confluence of surrealism and masterful photography. Containing 120 surreal images of nudes inspired by swimmers moving through water, the images were originally published in 1932 in the Parisian magazine Le Sourire. The photographs in the book, reproduced in gravure, were reprinted from the original glass negatives that had been restored in the early 1970s.
Measuring approximately 11” x 9”, the book is bound in the gray cloth boards with a photographically illustrated dust jacket. The condition of the book is FINE. The unclipped dust jacket is in Near FINE+ condition with a 1” inch tear to the back panel and very minor surface wear. The dust jacket is protected by a mylar covering. Overall, this is an exceptional copy of a highly sought after photobook classic that is rarely found in such wonderful condition.
Photographs of front and back of the dust jacket as well as photographs contained in the book appear below. Please note that although the photographs appear digitized as thumbnails, they are viewable in the photo viewer by clicking your mouse on the thumbnail.
