Best Mystery and Suspense Plays of the Modern Theatre
Rare Publishers Leather Bound Gift Edition
FINE Condition
This is a rare leather bound first edition of “Best Mystery and Suspense Plays of the Modern Theatre” published by Dodd, Mead New York in 1971. The book was issued in a hard cover with dust jacket but Dodd, Mead produced a very limited number of leather bound copies that they sent out as Christmas presents in 1971 to various friends of the publisher. The spine is bound in beautiful brown leather with the front and rear boards finished off in a very nice marbled paper. The endpapers match the covers marbled papers and the spine is gold gilded and the page ends are gold gilted.
The book was edited with an introductory note and prefaces to the plays by Stanley Richards and is illustrated with photographs from the original productions. The plays and playwrights are:
Witness for the Prosecution (Agatha Christie)
Dial "M" for Murder (Frederick Knott)
Sleuth (Anthony Shaffer)
The Letter (W. Somerset Maugham)
Child’s Play (Robert Marasco)
Arsenic and Old Lace (Joseph Kesselring)
Angel Street (Patrick Hamilton)
Bad Seed (Maxwell Anderson)
Dangerous Corner (J.B. Priestley)
Dracula (Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston)
The book is in FINE condition with some minor marks to the gilt. Laid into the book is the gift card from Dodd, Mead.
