Life: The Great Photographers
Easton Press
This is a first edition of a beautiful coffee table book published by the Easton Press in conjunction with Bullfinch Press in 2004. The book represents the work of every LIFE magazine staff photographer from the 20th century, as well as a handful of others closely affiliated with the magazine, including Alfred Eisenstadt, Margaret Bourke-White, Gordon Parks, Eugene Smith, and Joe McNally. “The Great Life Photographers” presents the most iconic images of the past century, as well as little-known gems from the LIFE archives. Many of these images are markers of the major milestones of history--the first pictures from inside the womb or from outer space, Robert Capa’s falling soldier, and memorable scenes from Tiananmen Square. Defining celebrity portraits of Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson are also featured.
From the publisher: “Here is one of the greatest collections of photojournalistic images ever assembled. Watch the 20th century unfold through more than 65 years of award-winning iconic photography culled from the archives of LIFE magazine. Features all of the 96 staff photographers throughout LIFE's history. Fascinating text recounts the moving stories behind the images and the photographers.”
Measuring 10” x 8” x 2” and containing 698 black-and-white and full-color photographs, the book is bound in full leather covered boards with 2 full color photographic montages inset on the cover. The book also features the usual Easton Press fineries of silk moiré endpapers, gold gilting and gilding, and a built in satin bookmark.
The condition of the book is FINE- with some marks and spotting to the gilt.
