Deluxe Leather Bound Edition

This is a wonderful leather bound biography of Joe DiMaggio entitled “DiMaggio: An Illustrated Life” published by the Easton Press in conjunction with Walker Publishing Company in 1999. From the publisher, “This full-length portrait of baseball great Joe DiMaggio combines Stout's meticulously researched biography with celebrated essays by Tom Boswell, Stephen Jay Gould, Mike Lupica, Mickey Mantle, and Luke Salisbury and 150 photos collected by Johnson -- most of which have never appeared in print -- drawn from private and public collections across the country. As Stout sums it up, Joe DiMaggio performed superbly the functions that a ballplayer must fulfill: hit with power, run, throw and field. Further, he was grace personified and invariably conducted himself with dignity. Born in California in 1914, the son of immigrants, he made his professional debut with the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League in 1932, drawing headlines the following year when he hit in 61 straight games. He joined the New York Yankees in 1936 and played until 1951, with two years out to serve in WWII; in his last 13 seasons, the Yankees won the pennant 10 times and DiMaggio established many World Series records. He is most famed, however, for his 56-game regular-season hitting streak (1941).”
Measuring 11” x 8.5”, the book is bound in full leather covered boards and features the usual Easton Press fineries of silk moiré endpapers, gold gilting and gilding, and a built in satin bookmark.
The condition of the book is FINE with a long thin scratch to the top gilt. There are no bookplates or signs of previous ownership.
