Eyelids of the Morning by Alistair Graham and Peter Beard
Featuring Spectacular Peter Beard Double Page Autograph and Art
This is the by far the most remarkable autograph treatment that I have ever encountered and a “must have” for the Peter Beard enthusiast.
Peter Beard is one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. His photography books including “Peter Beard, The Art Edition” by Taschen, “Eyelids of the Morning”, “The End of the Game”, and “Diary” are among some of the finest ever published. Although he is noted for his unique signature treatments, for this copy of “Eyelids of the Morning” he really outdid himself. The two page spread on the title page and first free endpaper includes an imprint of both feet, a photo of him as a youngster and then as an adult with a baby crocodile on his head, his signature with his famous quote, “Spoor No More”, and his post office address. I have taken a few additional pictures of the two page spread and they appear at the bottom of this listing.
The book itself is arguably his most famous work. This is the 1990 Chronicle Books, San Francisco, First Edition of the previously published work by NY Graphics. The definitive book on crocodiles (mainly the giant ones in L. Turkana (formerly L. Rudolph), Northern Frontier District, Kenya), it contains over 100 incredible photographs by Peter Beard. Measuring 10’ x 14”, the book is a hardcover bound in dark blue cloth with gold stamping on the front cover and spine.
