This is a very rare signed deluxe limited edition of “The Artists of My Life” published by Witken-Berley, Ltd., New York in 1982 with a limitation of 150 copies this being number 45 that includes a hand-pulled dust grained photogravure entitled, “Matisse Drawing from the Nude, 1939”. The Deluxe Edition is comprised of "specially selected sheets" from the original publication by the Viking Press in which Brassai shares his photographs of Braque, Dali, Dufy, Giacometti, Leger, Matisse, Miro, Picasso, Rouault, Maillol, and a dozen others, as well as his pungent impressions of them and delectable bits and pieces of their conversations about art, fellow artists, the affairs of the day, their own personal lives, their ambitions and frustrations.
Measuring approximately 11.5” x 9.5”, the book is bound in patterned cloth covered boards that contains a special presentation folder housing the signed Matisse print that measures 8.5” x 6.5”. The book and print are in FINE Condition. The book has been signed and numbered by Brassai on the limitation page and the print has been signed and numbered by Brassai on the recto.
