The J.R.R. Tolkien Classics Collection – Lord of the Rings

Complete 5 Volume Set

Easton Press

This is a beautifully crafted 5 volume Heirloom Edition set entitled “The J.R.R. Tolkien Classics Collection – Lord of the Rings” published by the Easton Press.  These beautiful heirloom editions of The Hobbit, Fellowship of The Ring, The Two Towers, Return of The King, and The Silmarillion include the beloved original artwork by Tolkien himself as appeared in the very first editions.  Frontispieces in each book are by the acclaimed illustrator Michael Hague.  Folding maps printed in black and red are included in four of the books. J.R.R. Tolkien’s influence on the Fantasy genre cannot be overstated. Without question, Tolkien is the father of modern high fantasy and “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” led directly to a resurgence of the fantasy genre. Nearly every fantasy author today lists Tolkien and “The Lord of the Rings as one their primary Influences.

From the publisher: “Tolkien's epic fantasy comes alive in this five-volume set: The Hobbit, the work that started it all, illustrated by Tolkien himself; The Lord of the Rings, the astounding trilogy that is still the benchmark for all fantasy, with frontispiece art by acclaimed fantasy illustrator Michael Hague; and The Silmarillion, which underlies all the stories of Middle-earth.”

The books in the collection are:

The Hobbit

The Fellowship of the Rings

The Two Towers

The Return of the King

The Silmarillion

Each book measures 9” x 6” and is bound in full leather boards with raised bands on the spine, gold gilding and gilting, and a built in satin bookmark.

The set is in FINE Condition with some volumes having some marks to the gilt.

Franklin Books Guide to Condition Descriptions

We realize that buying books online is difficult because you don't have the luxury of actually seeing the book before you make your decision. At Franklin Books, we strive to make your purchases as risk-free as possible. We follow four basic rules:

  1. We grade our books conservatively;
  2. We describe our books as extensively and accurately as possible;
  3. We pack our books tightly and securely for shipping.
  4. If you feel a book does not match our description, it is returnable for a full refund.

The following are the terms used to describe our books:

Mint - As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published and most likely will be in the original publisher's shipping box or shrink wrap.

Fine: Normally, our highest rating. A Fine book approaches the condition of As New. Any superficial/minor fault will always be noted.

Near Fine: A book approaching FINE with minor defects which will always be noted.

Very Good: A book that shows some signs of wear on either the binding or paper. The defects will always be noted.

Good: Describes the average used worn book that has all pages or leaves present. All defects will be noted. We rarely ever list a book in Good condition unless it is of sufficient rarity to be the best available on the market.

Fair/Poor: Describes a book that has major flaws. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges or pages. We do not sell books that are in Fair/Poor condition.

If you ever have any questions about the condition of a book, we strongly encourage you to call or email us and we will be happy to pull the book and provide you with any information you need to make an intelligent decision on your purchase.
