Fine binding in full leather. Nicely detailed with blind-tooling and gilt stamping, gilt on all edges and dentelles, and decorative endpapers.

Beautiful antiquarian first edition volume, comprising Shakespeare's heroines in words and images. Illustrated with forty-five full-page, tissue-protected, highly finished steel engravings. Tall quarto, almost folio in size. Each engraved plate is a work of art per se, accompanied by the description of the very character it portrays. Measures 11.25” x 8”.
Condition Report
The binding is very tight; the hinges are strong and undamaged, with the exception of small mended area at the very top of the frontal hinge. Boards are slightly cocked. Small chip to spine crown. Leather shows peripheral rubbing and discoloration yet remains whole and supple. Internally complete and amazingly clean, with only a hint of light occasional spotting /off-setting to pages.
