Beautiful antiquarian two volume set that is a revised and abridged version of his larger work published in 1836 due to recent visits and more discovery. The books feature 500 detailed woodcut illustrations highlighting Egyptian life and art.
Wilkinson divides his work into ten large sections; the first contains remarks on the early state of Egypt; the second chapter covers the history of Egypt from the accession of the first king Menes to the conquest of Egypt by Alexander; the third chapter is a general discussion of the state of Egypt and the division and subdivision of the four classes; the fourth chapter treats the members of the second class; the fifth contains the houses, gardens, villas, etc; the sixth contains and account of furnishings and activities; the seventh contains information for serving and preparation of dinner, games, exercises, the eighth contains information on hunting; the ninth treats the arts of the Egyptians; and the final chapter the style of art is covered.

Condition Report
Both volumes display tight bindings and secure & undamaged hinges. The leather remains whole and supple. Internally complete and clean with minimal even toning to the ext and some light foxing present to the free endpages. Previous owners name in ink on the first free endpaper of both volumes. Both volumes have a protective acetate sleeve. A wonderful set overall.
