This is a very attractive 10 volume leather bound illustrated collection of “Works of Victor Hugo” published by The University Press, Cambridge circa 1899. This is the complete Sterling Edition with complete pagination of the 20 volume edition bound in 10 books. Each volume is illustrated with a full page photogravure frontis plate on heavy stock and as well as numerous lithographic plates within the text. Victor Hugo is perhaps best known for his novels "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Les Miserables". "Les Miserables” in particular is considered one of the greatest books ever written.
Each book measures approximately 7.375” x 5.25” and is bound in the publishers original three-quarter levant morocco leather, hubbed spines with 5 compartments that contain spine titles and decorations, blue linen boards, blue marbled endpapers.
The condition of the exterior of the books is Very Good+ with strong bindings and hinges. There is some edge wear, corner wear, and wear at the headcap/tailcap of a few volumes. The internals are in Near FINE condition with no evidence of foxing or markings. Overall, this is a very attractive 10 volume leather bound collection containing the great works of Victor Hugo.
