This is a rare leather bound edition of  "Tales of Mystery and Imagination” published by Tudor Publishing, New York, in 1936. This collection of Poe's best stories contains all the terrifying and bewildering tales that characterize his work, as well as the Gothic horror of 'The Pit and the Pendulum' with other similarly wierd tales, together with all three of the landmark cases featuring his ground-breaking detective Auguste Dupin. Poe's incomparable tales are coupled with the strange and beautiful illustrations of Harry Clarke. The grotesque and fantastic nature of Clarke's illustrations are perfect representations of the same qualities in Poe's stories. There are eight tipped-in color plates and 24 full page black and white drawings.

Measuring 10” x 8” x 2”, the book is bound in a full morocco signed leather binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe with raised bands, gilded titles to the gilded paneled spines, double gild rule to the boards, marbled endpapers, gilted end pages, and gild dentelles. Bound into the front cover is a beautifully decorated title treatment. The gold stamp of Sangorski & Sutcliffe for Heritage appears on the bottom border of the front inside cover.

The condition of the book is FINE with a minor bump to the top front right tip and very superficial marks to the gilted page ends. Internally, the book is very clean with no evidence of foxing.
