Fine contemporary binding signed by Riviere & Son., London of three-quarter calf leather over cloth with elaborate gilding to the spine. The front cover has a gilt stamped crest and the page edges are marbled as are the endpapers. On the inside cover is a prize bookplate dated 1934. The bindery stamp of Riviere & Sons appears on the bottom of the first free endpaper.

The book was published as part of the Harrap’s Standard Fiction Library and rebound by Riviere as a prize binding to be awarded by the Hughs School.
The binding is in Near FINE condition with the most minimal of surface wear and some minor soiling and rubs to the back board. Internally the book is very clean with no foxing except for sporadic foxing to the endpapers. Overall, this is beautiful signed leather binding of one of the classics of western literature.
