A beautiful full leather binding with an elaborate rib gilt decorated spine and extensive gilting to the front and back covers with a repeating arabesque design. Gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, and all page edges gilted.

A beautifully illustrated collection of stories such as "Barbara Allen's Cruelty", Wilde's "The Ballad of Reading Gaol", "Robin Hood and Guy of Gisborne" and several others. The book contains a 29 page foreword by Beverly Nichols about the poems and ballads handed-down by minstrels and bards which are the essence of British spirit.
Illustrated with 16 full page color illustrations as well as in text black and white engravings by H.M. Brock.
Measures 10.875” x 8.5” with 280 pages and contains an index, appendix, and list of color plates.
