Hitler: A Study in Tyranny by Alan Bullock

Easton Press Deluxe Edition, 2002

FINE Condition

This is a deluxe leather bound edition of the critically acclaimed “Hitler: A Study in Tyranny” published by the Easton Press in 2002. From the publisher, “The book covers the whole of Hitler's life, from his obscure beginnings through his advance to supreme absolute power and then his final decline and suicide in the bunker as Russian shells fell around him. Bullock divides the narrative into three main sections. The first deals with Hitler's early life, his rise to party leader in the years following the First World War, and his gaining of the Chancellorship in 1933. The second part describes how he consolidated his position and extended his power once he was in office. The third and final part is about his actions in the Second World War.”

In his review of the book for Foreign Affairs, Henry L. Roberts wrote, “While it is perhaps impossible for a sane man ever to plumb the full depths of the Hitlerian personality, this scholarly and balanced biography is certainly the best single book on the Führer. Covering the whole of Hitler's life, and making extensive use of the abundant sources--especially the Nuremberg trials--Mr. Bullock, Censor of St. Catherine's, Oxford, has contributed most valuably to our picture of the Nazi era.”

Measuring 9.5" x 6.25" x 2” and containing 848 pages, the book is bound in full leather boards and features silk moiré endpapers, gold gilded covers, gold gilting on the page ends, and a built in silk bookmark.

The book is in FINE condition with very superficial marks to the side gilt. It appears to have never been read. There are no bookplates, markings, or any other signs of previous ownership.

Franklin Books Guide to Condition Descriptions

We realize that buying books online is difficult because you don't have the luxury of actually seeing the book before you make your decision. At Franklin Books, we strive to make your purchases as risk-free as possible. We follow four basic rules:

  1. We grade our books conservatively;
  2. We describe our books as extensively and accurately as possible;
  3. We pack our books tightly and securely for shipping.
  4. If you feel a book does not match our description, it is returnable for a full refund.

The following are the terms used to describe our books:

Mint - As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published and most likely will be in the original publisher's shipping box or shrink wrap.

Fine: Normally, our highest rating. A Fine book approaches the condition of As New. Any superficial/minor fault will always be noted.

Near Fine: A book approaching FINE with minor defects which will always be noted.

Very Good: A book that shows some signs of wear on either the binding or paper. The defects will always be noted.

Good: Describes the average used worn book that has all pages or leaves present. All defects will be noted. We rarely ever list a book in Good condition unless it is of sufficient rarity to be the best available on the market.

Fair/Poor: Describes a book that has major flaws. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges or pages. We do not sell books that are in Fair/Poor condition.

If you ever have any questions about the condition of a book, we strongly encourage you to call or email us and we will be happy to pull the book and provide you with any information you need to make an intelligent decision on your purchase.
