Zara’s Tale, Perilous Escapades in Equatorial Africa by Peter Beard
First Edition, First Printing, 2004
Featuring a Five Page Peter Beard Autograph Treatment
Fine Condition
This is a very special first edition, first printing of “Zara’s Tale, Perilous Escapades in Equatorial Africa by Peter Beard” published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York, in 2004. The book is comprised of 11 stories that he tells his daughter while in his tented camp encampment at Hog Ranch in Kenya. Three of the best photography books of the twentieth century emanated from his experiences in Africa, “The End of the Game”, “Eyelids of the Morning”, and “Diary”. With this as background, you can just imagine how spectacular the stories and photographs are that are part of this book.
Profusely illustrated with numerous photographs, maps and drawings, the book measures 8” x 9.5” and is 158 pages. Both the book and dust jacket are in Fine condition.
What makes this book so special is the five page autograph treatment by Peter Beard. He is noted for his special treatments and this is one of the best that I have seen. First in the front dust jacket with Peter Beard’s handprint, second is front free end paper "Peter Beard signature, Hog Ranch, Box 47616, Nairobbery", third is another hand print with the initials P.B. on the third page, forth is on the half title page under ZARA'S TALES " from Hog Ranch, Nbi" and finally on the title page under Peter Beard, he wrote "Box 603, Montauk, LI, NY, 11954".
Photographs of the five page autograph treatment appear at the end of the listing. Although the photographs appear digitized as thumbnails, they are viewable in the photo viewer by running your mouse over the thumbnail. You can also click on the thumbnail to open a separate window where the picture is viewable.
