The Sixties by Richard Avedon and Doon Arbus
First Edition, First Printing, 1999
Signed by Richard Avedon
This is a rare signed first edition, first printing of “The Sixties” published by Random House in 1999. The book is both a personal and political chronicle with the images ranging from Andy Warhol and the Beatles to Dr. Spock. Richard Avedon’s photography and Doon Arbus’s words perfectly capture this era of social upheaval and provide wonderful insight into the time period it is seeking to capture.
Measuring approximately 12” x 15”, the book is a photographically illustrated hardcover in an illustrated dust jacket. There are over 100 photographic images in both b/w and color with a section at the back of the book highlight the biographies of the celebrities profiled in the book.
The condition is Fine in a Near Fine+ dust jacket with some soiling and rubs to the dust jacket along with a 1/8” tear to the bottom edge and some edge wear to the dust jacket. The issues with the dust jacket sound rather ominous but the reality is that it really is in Near Fine + condition.
The book has been boldly signed by Richard Avedon on the title page.
