This is a very rare signed first edition, first printing of “Close Up” published by Thames and Hudson, New York in 1989. After taking a decade long break from photography after the publication of his cities series to pursue filmmaking, William Klein returned to the world of photography with this lavish production.  Containing 80 full-bleed double-page duotone plates, the book features images of Muhammad Ali in Zaire, the Pope at Lourdes, the 1988 Democratic Convention, Sumo wrestlers in Tokyo, a Rolling Stones concert, and many others never before published. The book also contains a brief introductory text by William Klein.

Measuring approximately “13.5 x 10”, the book is bound in rich black hard boards with white titles on cover and spine in an illustrated dust jacket. Both the book and dust jacket are in FINE- condition with a shadow crease to the upper right of the dust jacket (barely discernable unless you look very closely. I missed it at first because of the mylar cover) and a few bumps to the front board. The book is protected by a mylar cover. Overall, the book is in excellent condition and a highly collectible copy of this important title.

The book has been very boldly signed and dated on the title page by William Klein.
