Binding Details: Custom full leather prize binding by bound in pebbled leather boards framed with blind ruling, four raised bands on the spine with five compartments with gold gilt titling. The front cover of the book has a gold gild crest stamping of Hockerill Training College and the inside front cover contains a prize citation to Annie G. Porter that is signed by the Chaplain of the College. All page edges are gold gilted and there is a built in satin bookmark.
Book Details: This is the first edition “A History of the Jewish Nation; from the Earliest Times to the Present Day” published by The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London in 1883 that features 62 in-text and full page engravings designed to highlight this overview of the Hebrew race from the period of The Old Testament History, Post Biblical History, and Modern History.
E.H. Palmer was a Professor of Arabic Studies at Cambridge University and authored numerous books on Jewish and Arabic studies.
The book measures approximately 7.5” x 5.5” with 312 pages as well as a table of contents, introduction, and extensive index.
Condition Report: The binding is in FINE condition with very superficial surface wear. Internally, the book is very clean with some minor foxing to the blank pages at the beginning and end of the book. The prize inscription in written and dated in ink on the front inside cover.
