This is a signed limited edition of "A Streetcar Named Desire” published by the Limited Edition Club in 1982 with a limitation of 2000 copies this being number 853. The book features the complete text of William’s most famous play along with the wonderful illustrations of Al Hirschfeld. From the publisher, “Like the fine actors who have created the roles on the stage, Hirschfeld’s drawings for Streetcar evoke the tensions, the surface appearance, the inner psyche of Stanley, Blanche, Stella, Mitch, and the other dramatis personae.”
This unique binding by the Leprechaun Bindery is quarter Morocco leather over boards that are covered in handmade paper by Iris Nevins that features a heart infused marble treatment. The front and rear pastedowns are a playing card treatment meant to tie-in the scene in the play “Poker Night”. The Leprechaun Bindery symbol appears on the interior rear board in gilt.
Measuring approximately 12.5” by 8”, the book is illustrated and signed by Al Hirschfield who produced seven full-page illustrations on colored paper including the frontispiece. The book has been signed by Al Hirschfeld on the limitation page.
The binding is in Near FINE condition with the spine toned to a grayish blue. Internally, the book is very clean and does not have any signs of previous ownership.
