Each print is fully signed by David Halliday with the free standing photograph entitled “Still Life with Durian Fruit” also signed in full on the rectro. This copy, 3 of 60, was presented to Lance Speer (21ST Editions Contributing Editor and Director of Marketing) upon completion of the project.
Details of the Book and Prints: David Halliday’s luminous still life photographs are constructed from the simplest and most elemental objects and demonstrate the photographer’s classical palettes of form, texture and light. From John Wood’s introduction, “David Halliday, I am certain, is the greatest master of the still life that photography has yet produced. But more than that he is probably the greatest photographer of joy as well. I am talking here of serious joy—not an armload of puppies, a kitten in a ladle of pasta, kissing children, or anything to which the word cute might be applied. Though joyful, his work has about it the seriousness of the spiritual. His imagery is constructed from many of life’s most perfect, simple, yet most elemental objects—the rose, the egg, the bottle of milk, the loaf of bread. In his photographs these things transcend their objectivity to partake of the world of symbol and subjectivity… He finds the most existential of things to photograph, those things humanity would not want to live without. I am not speaking literally of food or flowers, but what those things represent to us, what they mean to us on a deeper level.”
Each signed and numbered copy of “The Perfect World of David Halliday” is hand-bound and printed in letterpress on handmade cotton rag paper. This gorgeous handmade volume is housed in a custom clamshell box and measures approximately 20” x 15”. The free-standing silver gelatin print is housed in a folded, letterpress printed presentation folder. The book is signed by David Halliday, John Wood, and the publisher, Stephen Albahari. A Letter of Provenance from Lance Speer is included.
The book and prints are in PRISTINE condition.
Photographs of book, the free standing silver gelatin print, and several examples of the silver gelatin prints contained in the book appear in the photo section of the listing.
