Human Body by Eikoh Hosoe
First Edition, First Printing, 1982
Complete Set Including Original Shipping Carton
This is a first edition, first printing of “Human Body” published by Nippon Geijutsu Shuppansha, Tokyo in 1982. Featuring 94 full page duotone photogravures, “Human Body” is a gorgeously designed retrospective of Hosoe's inimitable nudes and includes work from his critically acclaimed “Man & Woman” and “Embrace” series as well as many previously unpublished images. Commenting on the images, Galleria Carla Sozzani wrote, “this is a continuation of Hosoe's ongoing explorations of the male and female bodies. It focuses on the dialogue between men and women and extracts the essence of life by cleverly abstracting the flesh. The images are erotic, but not affectionate and show physical angst, the struggle of the genders. Hosoe's camera never captures the bodies from a dominant angle, therefore, the series of works in this exhibition are not merely expressing the bodies of the opposite sex, but are depicting the discovery of the equal and diverse relationships, such as the dialogue".
Measuring approximately 12” x 12”, the book is bound in black cloth-covered boards with a white dust jacket that is housed in a black printed slipcase and comes with the original shipping carton. The book and dust jacket are in FINE condition. The original shipping carton is in Near Fine condition and has minor wear. Overall, this is an exceptional copy of one of the scarcer titles by Eikoh Hosoe.
Photographs of the dust jacket and slipcase, the original shipping carton, and several photographs contained in the book appear in the photo section of the listing.
