Binding Details: Signed Bayntun bindings featuring full leather polished calf boards with elaborate gilt decorations and titling to the spine with five raised spine hubs, double gilt ruling to the boards, inner and outer dentelles, marbled endpapers, and gold gilted page ends. The Bayntun Binders stamp appears on the top of the first free endpaper.
Each volume measures 8.25” x 5.5” with The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn having 338 pages and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer having 247 pages.
Book Details: Published by J.M. Dent & Sons and E.P. Dutton & Co as part of their Children's Illustrated Classics Series, these are later editions of two of Mark Twain’s most enduring works, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Each volume features Greenaway Medal winning C. Walter Hodges' illustrations consisting of four color plates and several in-text vignettes that are a perfect complement to Twain’s classic works.
Condition Report: The bindings are in Near FINE condition with some very minor surface wear to the boards. The bindings are tight with secure hinges. Internally complete and clean with no foxing. There are creases to the tissue guard protecting the frontispiece in each volume. A neat signature of the previous owner appears on the half-title page of Huckleberry Finn. Overall, these are beautiful signed Bayntun bindings that house two of the greatest books ever written.
