History: In 2002, fine press photography book publisher 21ST Editions released Cante Jondo. Limited to 55 copies worldwide, the hand-bound collection contains 11 original silver gelatin prints (ten bound and one free-standing silver gelatin print that is suitable for framing). Each print is fully signed by Josephine Sacabo with the free standing photograph also signed in full on the rectro. This copy, 3 of 60, was presented to Lance Speer (21ST Editions Contributing Editor and Director of Marketing) upon completion of the project.

Details of the Book and Prints: While Josephine Sacabo’s photographs are often visually and psychologically calming, they also resonate with energy. The viewer is continually seduced by her warm tones and elegant figures yet becomes caught up in the pathos just under the surface. From the publisher, “21ST is proud to announce the publication of Cante Jondo (Deep Song) with the passionate poetry of Ana Cristina Rudholm y Balmaceda and the lyrical photographs of Josephine Sacabo. The poetry, printed in monotype letterpress on Arches paper, is accompanied by ten toned silver gelatin photographs printed and signed by the photographer. Each book is individually hand sewn and bound in cloth with hand- made endpapers and delivered in a hand crafted cloth clamshell box. A free-standing, signed and toned silver gelatin print of La Mano (The Hand) accompanies each book.

The book measures 20” x 16”. The free-standing silver gelatin print is housed in a folded, letterpress printed presentation folder. The book is signed by Josephine Sacabo, John Wood, and publisher Steven Albahari. A Letter of Provenance from Lance Speer is included.

The book and prints are in MINT condition.

Photographs of book, the free standing silver gelatin print, and several examples of the silver gelatin prints contained in the book appear in the photo section of the listing.
