Binding Details: Signed Bayntun binding featuring three-quarter leather covered boards over linen with gilt decorations and titling to the spine with five raised spine hubs, marbled endpapers, all page edges gilted. The Bayntun Binders stamp appears on the top of the first free endpaper.
Measures 8.875” x 6”, Two Volumes bound into 1 with 432 pages and 531 pages with an index and list of illustrations.
Book Details: The first Medici Society edition was published in two quarto volumes in 1911, and was first issued in one octavo volume in 1927. This edition, with modernized spelling, also contains the preface by William Caxton, who first edited and printed Malory’s classic in 1485. This Medici Society edition was published in 1935 with both volumes bound into one. This 1935 edition features 24 exquisitely drawn and colored illustrations by Sir William Russell Flint that includes a frontispiece protected by a tissue guard. His illustrative interpretation of Malory's work is masterful and depicts seminal moments and characters within the Arthurian tale including: Uther Pendragon; Morgan le Fay; Merlin; Merlin; King Arthur; Guenever; Sir Launcelot; the Lady of the Lake; Sir Uwain; Sir Pelleas; Sir Gareth (Beaumains); Tristram; La Beale Isoud; King Meliodas; Tramtrist; Segwarides; King Mark; Sir Bors; Sir Percivale; and Galahad.
Condition Report: The book is in Near FINE condition. The binding is tight with secure and undamaged hinges. The leather remains whole and supple with some discoloration to the top edge of rear linen board that also contains a shallow L shaped thin scratch. Internally complete and clean with no foxing.
