History: In 2005, fine press photography book publisher 21st Editions released Sally Mann. Limited to 100 copies worldwide, the hand-bound collection contains 11 original platinum prints (ten bound and one free-standing that is suitable for framing). Each print is initialed by Sally Mann with the free standing photograph signed in full on the rectro. The platinum prints were produced by Stan Klimek of Stan Klimek Studios. This copy, 8 of 100, was presented to Stan Klimek upon completion of the project by the publisher of 21st Editions. As a way of saying “thank you” to Stan Klimek for his work on the project, Sally Mann signed her full signature on each print instead of initialing them as she did on all the other copies with the exception of this copy and two other presentation copies.
Details of the Book and Prints: Sally Mann brings together many of the most graceful and sensuous early figure and drapery studies created by this internationally acclaimed artist. This volume is a true livre d’artiste, as the introduction as well as the accompanying poems were written by the artist herself. Each signed and numbered copy of Sally Mann is hand-bound, printed in letterpress on handmade cotton rag paper. This gorgeous handmade volume is housed in a raw silk covered clamshell box and is delivered in a unique case created to complement the exquisite binding. As previously stated, the master printmaker for the platinum prints was Stan Klimek of Stan Klimek Studios. The book measures 14” x 12” and the free-standing print measures 9.875’ x 7.375’ on paper measuring 13.875” x 11.875”. The book is signed and numbered (8 of 100) by Sally Mann on the limitation page. Each bound platinum print is in signed in full by Sally Mann and the free-standing platinum print is also signed in full on the rectro and is accompanied by a poem. A Letter of Provenance from the publisher is included as is a Letter of Provenance from Stan Klimek. The book, prints, and case are all in MINT condition in the original wood packing case.
