Book Details: T.E. Lawrence’s masterpiece about his experiences as a British soldier while serving as a liaison officer with rebel forces during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War is widely considered one of the great literary works of the twentieth century. Winston Churchill described the book as "ranking with the greatest books written in the English language".
Originally published in 1926 as a limited edition for private circulation and then in 1927 as a shortened version with the title “Revolt in the Desert”, this first trade edition was published in 1935 by Jonathan Cape, London and contains the first printing point of a printing error in the list of illustrations on page 20 that was corrected in later editions. This 1935 edition was published the year after Lawrence's death and features 4 folding maps and 54 black & white illustrations from the 1926 edition that range from photographs, works in oil, pastel, and charcoal. The 31 illustrations by Eric Kennington are particularly striking and a perfect complement to Lawrence’s writing.
The book measures approximately 10” x 7.5” and contains 672 pages including an author’s preface, list of illustrations, 4 folding maps, and 54 wonderful illustrations.
