The Fables of Aesop
Illustrated by Edward J. Detmold
Facsimile of 1909 Original Edition, 6 of 500
Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London in 1981
This is beautiful leather bound facsimile of the critically acclaimed “The Fables of Aesop” published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1981 and printed and bound in England with a limitation of 500 copies this being number 6. Originally published in 1909, the book features the incredible illustrations of Edward J. Detmold that are considered by many to be among his finest work.
Measuring 10" x 7.25" with 34 tipped-in color plates including the frontispiece all protected by tissue guards, the book is beautifully bound in full leather with stamped and gilded designs on the front and spine, gold gilted pages ends, and built in satin bookmark. The book is protected by the original mylar cover and is housed in the original slipcase.
Please note that this edition is not to be confused with the non-numbered Hodder and Stoughton edition produced in 1981 which was made in a lesser quality binding and which bore no limitation plate and came without a slipcase.
The book and slipcase are in FINE condition. Overall, this is beautifully produced limited edition of one of the great classics bound in a full leather binding.
Photographs of the binding, slipcase, limitation page, and stock photographs of some of the illustrations appear in the photo section of the listing.
