Binding Details: Full leather binding by the Harcourt Bindery, Charlestown, Massachusetts bound in morocco leather that has raised bands to the spine, gilt titling, and gilt ruling. There are marbled endpapers, hand-sewn silk headbands, and gold gilted top page ends. The Harcourt Bindery label appears on the bottom of the last free endpaper.
Book Details: Originally published in 1912, this is the 1940 reprinting of The Oxford Book of Latin Verse From the Earliest Fragments to the End of the Fifth Century A. D. published by the Oxford University Press. This well thought out anthology contains a 43 page introduction that by H.W. Garrod that is invaluable in helping the reader sort through the 435 pages of Latin poems. The poems are followed by 50 pages of English translations, a Glossary of Old Latin, an index of authors and passages, and an index of first lines. The book measures 6.5” x 4.25”.
Condition Report: The binding is in FINE condition with a superficial rub to a top corner tip. Internally, the book is very clean with no signs of previous ownership.
