This is a beautiful 4 volume matching leather bound set of A.A. Milne’s classic work published by E.P. Dutton & Company in 1945 that features the wonderful line drawings of Ernest H. Shepard. The books in the set are “Winnie-The-Pooh”, “Now We Are Six”, “When We Were Very Young”, and “The House at Pooh Corner”.
The books are finely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London in half crushed morocco and marbled paper covered boards with each volume a different color. The spines have five raised bands, each with gilt piping and gilt stamped vignettes of the Pooh characters which also appear in gilt vignettes to the front cover of each book. Top edges gilt. The binders stamp appears in each book on the top of the first free endpaper. Each book measures 7.5” x 5.25” and they are housed in a functional cloth covered slipcase.
The condition of the set is FINE- condition with some minor rubbing to the bottom of the spine of “Now We Are Six”. The bindings are tight and firm and internally the books are very clean. The functional slipcase is in Very Good condition with some sunning and soiling. The slipcase has done a great job of protecting the books.
